A student of Classical music since early childhood, Carl was made familiar with the principals of tuning and intonation during fifteen years of formal training at the piano, clarinet, and voice. Carl performed in theaters, choirs, bands and orchestras for many years before studying poetry and music composition at Columbia College Chicago. After receiving his BA in Poetry Writing, he enrolled in the Randy Potter School of Piano Technology and became an Associate member of the Piano Technicians Guild.
